Jotawang - Antique Furniture Antique furniture is hunted both internal and external collectors. Its price can reach tens millions. More antique and older, the price is more expensive. For example, Joglo house made of teak is sellable. For its wood only, its price can reach Rp 200 millions, or in Javanese’s term it calls “Bedhol Omah”.
In Bantul, there is a region which most of people work as antique furniture crafters. That region is located about 5 kilometers of city center. It is exactly at Imogiri Barat street, Jotawang, Bangunharjo, Sewon, Bantul. Besides making antique furniture, they also re-produce antique furniture from other regions.
Chair, table, cupboard, bookshelf, box and wall decoration are Jowang Crafters’ products. They design the furniture, concern to Javanese, Madurese, Asmat, Aborigine and European’s style. But it still allows the crafters to make other design, based on buyers’ order. Most material use wood. Material stock has no problem. Its wood is imported from Bantul, Gunungkidul, Purwokerto, Jepara, Kalimantan and Sumatera.
For one home industry, its monthly income can reach tens and even hundreds millions rupiah. Local market, which routinely gives order, is from Bali, Yogyakarta, Jakarta and Semarang. For international market, it is from America, Japan, France, Italy, Netherlands, Africa, Germany, Australia, Malaysia, Arab and Singapore.
