It is leather-painted gallery, which was established by Sujiyono in 1984, a person from Pocung, RT 05 RW 34 Wukirsari, Imogiri, Bantul, Yogyakarta. Starting from his work in maintaining palace’s leather puppet, he tried to make leather-painted craft. It was sellable. He then produced lampshade, leather puppet, candle-shade, calligraphy, and many other souvenirs.


The main material is buffalo, cow and goat leather. It is taken from Segoroyoso, Bantul and Ujung Pandang. According to Sujiyono, the process starts from raw leather soaking for a day, without any chemical. It is then dried for 1 to 2 days, scrapped, and then make a pattern based on its orders. It is lathe, then painted or ‘sungging’.

There are 24 workers at Agung Karya Sentosa company. Those consist of department of leather processing, pattern, lathe and painted. Most workers are Pocung people. Sujiyono is able to produce 2000 pieces item every month with various shapes. His monthly income ranges from Rp 10 to Rp 15 millions. We have been able to find Sujiyono’s products at Jogjakarta, Jakarta, Surabaya and Bali. The foreign markets are Japan, Greece, Turkey, America and Europe.

Opening showroom at the Art Market of Gabusan Los.1 Kav. 6, Sijiyono is optimistic that his products will be sellable. The strategic way to market his products is through Internet. Sujiyono expresses his thank to the Government of Bantul Regency, which has built bantulbiz.com business site, where craft makers can market their products through Internet.
