| BONGO Art - Wooden and Stone Lathe Craft Maker
| | Bongo Kayu Kelapa Art (BKK Art) is one of craft houses, which opens showroom at Neco Kidul Rt.04/02 no. 18, Sabdodadi, Bantul. It was established by M. Mursid in 1997. Before establishing BKK Art, M. Mursid ever became a contractor in Jakarta. With his wife he then decided back to his village in Bantul and changed his profession to be a craft maker.
His ability in operating lathe machine is his main capital in creating various crafts made of yellow stone and sonokeling wood. Candlestick, plaice-mate and plate made of sonokeling wood are his creation.
Watching to the prospect of craft industry in Bantul Regency, with his wife, he then tried to run craft business with the material of wood and stone at his fatherland. He gives BKK Art as his craft product label.
M. Mursid admits that he gets the stone from Wonosari, Pleret, Ambarowo and Purworejo. He has now recruited 6 permanent and 6 daily workers. BKK Art is able to produce 1000 to 3000 pieces of craft product made of stone. His monthly earning ranges from Rp 10 millions to Rp 15 millions. The price is vary, from Rp 37 to Rp 60 thousands.
At the end 2004, the government of Bantul Regency gave a chance to BKK Art to open outlet at the Art Market of Gabusan Los II Kav. 1. BKK Art’s products are routinely distributed to Bali, Jakarta, Surabaya and Yogyakarta. It has also been spread over Germany, America and Australia.
